Bathroom Ceiling Lights Buying Guide

Choose your bathroom ceiling lights

Changing your bathroom ceiling lighting enables you to drastically alter the overall feel of the room. The style of light is important, and is a great way to put your personality into the setting; but the brightness and positioning of the light are also key things to consider as they will also have a great effect on the mood of the room. Big, bold lights are perfect for larger bathrooms, while smaller, more subtle options are great if you want the room to give off a more ambient vibe.

So what are my options?

There are countless designs available when it comes to ceiling lights. Whether you're looking for a modern or perhaps a more traditional style there'll be plenty of choices to pick from. Below are just some of the examples which can make a massive difference to the room.

Chandeliers

What better way is there to make a grand statement than with a decorative chandelier? These attention grabbers will give your bathroom a stylish focal point that will look sensational. There are both contemporary and more classically styled varieties out there so it all comes down to picking something that matches your chosen decor.

Do be aware that some chandeliers are very big and will be best suited to large bathroom settings as they will completely dominate smaller rooms.

Multiple lights

A common choice; using a ceiling mounted base which contains numerous lights is a great way to direct light into specific areas while also brightening the entire room. There are some stunning designs on offer too, with everything from spherical lights to angular, ornate offerings available.

Recessed

If you're wanting to achieve a hyper-modern look then recessed ceiling lighting might be just what you're looking for. These spotlights are mounted into the ceiling to create a flush appearance. You can install as many as you need around the room to light it to your satisfaction. A great way to give your bathroom a look that's right on trend.

What is an IP rating?

The IP (ingress protection) rating essentially tells you how waterproof an electrical product is. Each item will be given a number from 1 to 8, with 8 being the most waterproof. For example, if something had a rating of IPX4 or above then it would usually be fine to install in zones 1 or 2.

What are splash zones?

Your bathroom is split into different three main zones; 0, 1 and 2. These zones dictate how water resistant an item should be if it needs to be installed there. Zone 0 is very wet, zone 1 has a high risk of splashing and zone 2 has some risk of splashing. Using the IP rating will indicate whether or not a specific light is suitable or not. Lighting isn't usually installed in zone 0, but for installation in zones 1 or 2 the light would need to be at least IPX4 rated as there may be some risk of splashing.

Are ceiling lights easy to fit myself?

This is a specialist job as the wiring for ceiling lights can be quite complex. Add water into the mix and it's a recipe for disaster! Although you can tackle this job yourself if you know exactly what you're doing, we strongly recommend hiring a qualified professional to install your bathroom ceiling light for you as this will ensure the room is completely safe to use.
