What size shower waste do I need?

The waste needs to fit the opening in your shower tray and connect to the pipework beneath it. If you’re replacing an old waste, measure the hole in your tray and check where the pipe connects, as the size of the cover alone won’t tell you whether a new one will fit.

Will a fast flow waste help water drain away quicker?

It can, especially if your shower delivers a lot of water. The pipework matters too, so a faster waste on its own may not solve water backing up in the tray. The stated flow rate helps you compare wastes, but it doesn't tell you how quickly every fitted shower will drain.

 

Will a shower waste fit beneath a low tray?

Some shower wastes are shallower than others. The height of the shower trap and the direction of its outlet make a difference when there's little space beneath the tray. A low profile design may help, provided its outlet works with your pipework.

 

Can I clean a shower waste from above?

Some shower traps have a cover or inner part you can lift out to clear trapped hair and soap. An easy-to-clean design is particularly useful when the space beneath the tray won't be accessible once the shower is finished.
