An essential part of any quadrant enclosure is, of course, a good quality quadrant shower tray to support it. These trays come in a wide range of sizes, so finding one to fit your enclosure should be straightforward.

 

What is a quadrant shower tray?

Quadrant shower trays are designed to form the base of your quadrant enclosure. With a rounded edge to match the curvature of the glass, they are ideal for fitting neatly into a corner and saving space.

They are typically manufactured from stone resin, which is both flexible and durable, though some trays may be made from acrylic instead.

 

How easy are they to install?

As with most plumbing tasks, installation is straightforward if you know exactly what you're doing. If you're not confident, however, it's best to leave the job to a plumber.

Installation methods vary depending on the style of tray you choose. Low profile trays, for example, require a different process than raised trays. If you are installing the tray yourself, take care to ensure it is fully secure, as a loose tray can be very dangerous. Remember to apply a good quality silicone sealant around the edges once the tray is in place to create an effective, long-lasting bond.

 

What if gaining access under my floor is difficult?

If accessing this area is difficult (for example, with a concrete floor), don’t worry as there's always a solution. Some quadrant trays come with leg stands that raise the height of the shower enclosure, making it much easier to install the pipework without hassle. A panel then wraps around the base of the tray to keep the pipes hidden, giving you a much neater overall finish.

 

Do they require much maintenance?

Not really. A good weekly scrub with a dedicated cleaner and a sponge should remove most stains with minimal effort. However, if trays are left too long between washes, limescale can build up, which is harder to remove. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as these can cause permanent staining and damage the appearance of the tray. Additionally, some hair dyes can leave marks if not cleaned up immediately, so it’s important to address spills promptly.
