Hudson Reed Traditional Dual Concealed Thermostatic Shower Valve - Chrome - A3091C

Excellent shower

We bought this to replace another shower which had been replaced twice but never worked. This matched the cut out in the tiles and matched our taps etc. The installation was straightforward but more importantly the performance is fantastic with no adjustment of factory settings required. Wish we had found this sooner and not paid twice to a well known bathroom supplier. This is highly recommended.

Introduction

If you've spent a fair amount of time transforming your bathroom into a beautiful, classically inspired setting, then you'll need the perfect shower components to match. Traditional shower valves will complement the look of period bathrooms as their intricate crosshead or lever handle designs have been created to replicate the style of older eras. This guide will take a look at what your options are, and whether they will be a good choice for your bathroom

What choices are available to me?

Before buying your new traditional shower valve, there are a few things you should be aware of first. Things such as water pressure need to be taken into account, and you also need to decide whether you want a concealed or exposed valve, and if a twin or triple item will be required. If all this sounds a bit daunting to you, don't panic! We'll explain everything you need to know.

Twin or triple valve you say?

This may sound a little bit complicated but in reality it's quite straight forward:

Twin shower valves have two separate controls which allow the user to adjust the temperature and flow of the water. A single accessory may also be connected such as a shower head, which is controlled by the valve. Twin valves which have a diverter integrated into their design give the option for two accessories to be included, however only one can be used at a time.

Triple shower valves allow you to build a more advanced shower as they enable you to attach two outlets. Three separate outlets can be connected to triple valves which feature a diverter. Two accessories can be used at the same time with these items, which means luxuries such as body jets can be added for a more thorough shower. Triple valves and body jets aren't normally found in traditional settings, but it's nice to know the options are there should you need them!

Concealed or exposed?

More of a cosmetic thing than anything else, there are two main styles of traditional valve:

Concealed valves are very neat looking items which hide the main elements of the valve behind the wall, leaving only the control panel visible. Traditional options will include stunning crosshead or lever style handles to create a more authentic looking room.

Exposed shower valves look fantastic in period bathrooms as they often have more ornate designs due to the fact that the entire valve is on display, usually featuring a large crosshead handle for added effect. They are easier to install than concealed valves and are also less expensive which helps if you happen to be on a tighter budget.

What about water pressure?

This is very important as you need to make sure your new valve can actually be operated correctly. You'll notice the minimum water pressure rating required listed under each valve product description.

Keep in mind that the rating will normally be higher for valves featuring a diverter as they will generally have more outlets to support.

Is a traditional shower valve right for me?

If you have a period bathroom, then a traditional shower valve will look perfect. Add one to a traditional shower and create a stunning look that will stand the test of time.
