Nice quality floor tile - lighter than expected
4th November 2026This tile looks good but a lot lighter than the images. I'd recommend getting a sample first as they're a lovely pale oak, just not what I expected.

FAQ's
If you love the natural look of wood but could do without the upkeep, you're in the right place. Wood effect tiles bring all that lived-in character minus the stress of scratches, stains or water damage. Let's get into the questions that actually matter when choosing the right ones for your space.
What are wood effect tiles made from?
Most tiles in our range are ceramic or porcelain, with a design that recreates the colour and grain of wood. Our collection also includes a number of self-adhesive vinyl products. Check the material and suitability of the product you choose, particularly if it's going on a floor or in a bathroom.
Do wood effect tiles look like real wood?
Many wood effect tiles recreate the grain and shade variation of timber, but the look varies by design. Some have a printed grain on a smooth surface, while others have a texture you can feel.
Remember that lighting and screen settings can make an oak shade look lighter, darker, warmer or cooler than it will in your room. A sample lets you see the colour alongside your walls and furniture, while photos showing several wood effect tiles together give you a better idea of how the grain and shades look once fitted.
Are wood effect tiles suitable for bathrooms and kitchens?
Definitely; that's where they really shine. Choose wood effect wall tiles for a feature wall or kitchen splashback, or wood effect floor tiles for a bathroom, kitchen or hallway floor. Check the suitability of the tile you choose, especially for shower walls or wet floors. For a bathroom floor, look at its stated slip rating too: our guide to tile anti-slip ratings explains what these mean.
Do wood effect tiles feel cold underfoot?
They're naturally cooler than real wood but that's easy to fix. If you'd prefer a warmer floor, explore our underfloor heating range and read our guide to choosing flooring for underfloor heating. Porcelain heats evenly, so your floors warm up fast; no more cold-floor shock on winter mornings.
How do I choose the right size or layout?
Think about the pattern you want before choosing a tile. Individual planks can give you a floorboard look, while chevron and parquet effect tiles create different patterns. Longer planks can make the joins less frequent; smaller pieces make the layout more noticeable.
Before fitting, lay out a few tiles from different boxes to see how the grain and shades sit together. Check how the lines meet on slatted or parquet designs, and plan where any cut tiles will go. Follow the chosen tile's laying guidance rather than assuming every plank size will suit the same staggered pattern.
