What are split face tiles?

Dry-lay several panels first to see how the edges meet and where the cuts will fall. Although the interlocking shape helps disguise the joins, small gaps can still be visible, so use a suitable tile adhesive in a colour that will not draw attention to them. Allow for wastage and use cutting equipment appropriate for the tile material.

Should I order a sample of split face tiles?

Yes. A free sample can help you check the colour, texture, sparkle or sheen in your room's lighting. However, a cut sample may not show the full size of the individual stone pieces, the depth variation or how the panels join together.

Alongside ordering a sample, look at photographs showing complete split face tiles and several panels fitted together. This will give you a better idea of the overall scale, repeated texture and whether any horizontal or vertical joins may remain visible.

What interiors do split face tiles work well in?

Split face wall tiles are very versatile; it all comes down to the colour and texture you go for:

Can I use split face wall tiles in a shower?

Real stone split face tiles aren't the best choice inside a shower. They're uneven, tricky to seal properly and can trap moisture in the small gaps. Porcelain or ceramic split face effect tiles, however, are shower-friendly. They give you the textured look without the porous surface, so they're water-resistant and easier to clean.
