What is a close coupled toilet?

A close coupled toilet is a conventional toilet where the bowl and cistern are closely coupled together rather than being separated. These toilets are available in a wide range of different styles, from ultra modern designs to timeless, classic options to suit more traditional bathrooms.

Are all close coupled toilets the same?

The 'close coupling' of a toilet bowl and cistern doesn't mean that all close coupled toilets are the same. They can be traditional, as with a close coupled back to wall toilet, minimalist, such as those featuring rimless designs, or more ornate, especially when paired with a traditional solid wood toilet seat.

What is the difference between a close coupled toilet and a back to wall toilet?

With a close coupled toilet, the cistern sits on the toilet pan while, with a back to wall toilet, the toilet plan fits flush against a wall and utilises a concealed cistern. Both types can be compact in order to save space in a smaller bathroom, but a back to wall toilet is an even tidier option for contemporary spaces.
