Some questions to ask yourself

Before considering which shower is right for you, you may want to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Who will use your shower? Just you? You and a partner? You and a whole family?
  • What style do you want? Contemporary (up-to-date looks) or more traditional?
  • What’s your budget?
  • What features do you want? Do you want just easy control over temperature and flow, or do you want to be able to programme a pre-set experience or integrate with your smart home system?

A quick introduction to digital & smart showers

What is a digital shower?

The main difference between a digital shower and a common mixer shower is the use of electrical power to control elements such as water temperature, flow and your choice of outlet. In most mixer showers, these aspects are controlled manually using a dial or lever mechanism, however with digital showers it is more likely you will use a push-button control. Some even have displays and LEDs so you can see exactly what temperature your water is, and some can be operated via remote control, so you could even switch your morning shower on from the warmth and comfort of your bed.

Digital showers also shouldn’t be confused with electric showers. The main difference between these two is that electric showers use electricity to power a heating element which produces hot water, as opposed to controlling aspects of your shower.

What is a smart shower?

Taking the concept of a digital shower a step further, a smart shower allows you to fully control every aspect of your showering experience, including temperature, flow, duration and outlet, from your phone or even through voice activation when paired with a smart home system such as Amazon Alexa.

The capabilities of a smart shower are much greater than those of a digital shower, with many different applications and uses that can help keep family members safe and make your home work “smarter”, by aiding more efficient use.

For example, if you wish to keep a close eye on your water consumption you could set your shower to run at a lower pressure and for a shorter duration, to help cut costs on your bills. You could also set a maximum shower temperature for your children or elderly relatives, so you know they’re safe or programme a showering sequence to aid recovery after fitness sessions or sports.

Some digital showers and smart showers can also be used to fill your bath, providing the perfect depth and temperature every single time.
