Bathroom Ideas

Beautify your windows and keep privacy at a premium.

Orange Curtain

When you’re planning a bathroom renovation, chances are you’ll be thinking about things such as whether you want a modern or more period influenced look, what colour to go for, and what suite to use. But there’s an important element that shouldn’t be overlooked: privacy.

But covering your window (or windows) doesn’t have to be a boring afterthought. In fact, there are numerous stylish window treatment options out there that will greatly enhance the overall look of the room. Here, we’ll be taking a look at exactly what’s available, and what would work best for you.

The glass itself

One of the most commonly used methods of keeping your privates private is the use of frosted glass. The process involved in frosting glass essentially makes the window appear opaque, so you can no longer clearly see through it, however light is still allowed to stream in from outside.

There are a great selection of creative options around when it comes to frosted glass. We’ve seen everything, from simplistic lines to rather intricate designs. You can even get glass that features colours integrated into the panes, allowing for unique coordination with the rest of the room. Styles include plain frosting for a classic, sophisticated look, while etched leaf patterns and stylish swirls are amongst the most popular. However, you can have pretty much anything featured on the glass if you wish.

If you don’t want to actually go through the expensive of replacing a window for a more private version, there is an alternative. Window films are adhesive which feature designs influenced by glass frosting. These films allow you to achieve the look without breaking the bank. They are also available in spray can form for even easier application.

Curtains, blinds, and shutters

Besides frosting, many people choose to use either curtains, blinds, or shutters as either an accompaniment to the custom glass, or as a separate way to keep things private.

Curtains are a great way to inject a little more life into a bathroom. There are plenty of designs available allowing you to easily harmonise them with the rest of the décor. Styles such as tab top, pencil pleat, and slot top curtains allow you to tailor exactly the kind of look you want to achieve. Tie backs and drapes can also be implemented to further develop the window area. Voiles are a nice look for bathrooms however it’s probably best to have some kind of frosted glass installed as well as these curtains can be quite transparent!

With regards to blinds and shutters, again there are an abundance of styles to pick from. Roller, Venetian, vertical, and Roman blinds can all be made to look fantastic when used in a bathroom setting. Many of these are also supplied in different colours so you can select something that complements the surroundings. Wooden Venetian blinds for example, would look stunning in a classically influenced room, while roller blinds would suit the simplicity of a more modern example. Blinds are also ideal for bathrooms as they can withstand the increased humidity that comes from being in such an environment.

Plan ahead

Of course, before you make any decisions on what you would like it’s best to take into account a couple of things. Firstly, ensure that you take some measurements and also consider the amount of space you have. A large set of curtains and tie-backs will dwarf a small bathroom, for example. Secondly, be sure to choose something that will suit the décor you have gone with, as ultra-modern frosting or blinds may not look too great when partnered with a traditional suite.

With the sheer amount of different options open to you, it’s easy to give your bathroom window a unique treatment that will look smart for years to come.
