Bathroom Ideas

Brighten up your bathroom this spring with our helpful guide.

We’re at that time of year again when the days are getting longer, the flowers are starting to come through, and the birds are chirping away at the crack of dawn. Even the sun has made a few cameo appearances lately! Yes, spring is well and truly on its way, and that means it’s the perfect time to give your bathroom a refresh in time for the summer.

Leave winter behind with a stylish new look

With the cold winter months now behind us, there should (hopefully) be some nice weather ahead to look forward to. We all know that sunshine helps to make us more motivated, so why not use the boost to get that bathroom looking sharp!

When considering a bathroom makeover, first consider your budget, and what you want to achieve from the renovation. A good starting point would be to pick out a smart new colour scheme to dramatically change the appearance of the room. Warm, vibrant colours like orange and lime green are popular this year, as are more soothing hues like purple and blue. Remember that different colours will have different effects on the surroundings.

Besides the addition of new, colourful wall tiling, replacing your fittings is the next step to take in order to create a completely new image. Decide on whether modern or more traditional options are for you, then select from the beautiful choices available to really get your bathroom looking smart.

Vanity units with semi-recessed basins, and square toilets have grown in popularity lately due to their smart, contemporary appearance. For more classic looks, a stand mounted basin coupled with a low level toilet will really set the tone. Matching your suite to a stylish freestanding bathtub, or upgrading your existing shower setup will provide effective ways to freshen up the general feel of the room.

Upgrading your lighting arrangement will make a big difference when it comes to the atmosphere the room has, so it’s well worthwhile considering including new ceiling and wall lights on your list of things to improve. Chandeliers are great for that vintage look, while bar lights add an uber-modern touch.

Small changes can make a big difference too

Once your bathroom is looking revitalised, it’s time to turn your attention to more subtle things that will have a surprisingly big impact. There are numerous aspects of the bathroom than can be improved without the need for a full restoration that will make the room look new again. Installing a new set of bath and basin taps is a great way to breathe new life into these fittings. Waterfall mixers add a splash of trendy style, while crosshead taps conjure up grand images of the past.

New shower components, such as heads or arms will also give you a subtle yet effective way to refresh the bathroom. It’s worth paying attention to these items as they are the key to achieving a complete looking room.

General maintenance can also go a long way. Over time, the grout in floor tiles can begin to discolour, or crack and start to work its way out from between the tiles, leaving unsightly gaps that can really spoil the overall look of the room. Simply re-grouting your tiling is an excellent way to keep things looking spotless. It’s often overlooked touches such as this that really pull the whole look together.

Just like missing or discoloured grout, mould build up on your wall tiles or around the shower and window areas of the room can also ruin the appearance you’ve worked so hard to create. Spending some time removing any mould and mildew that has settled in over winter will quickly bring your bathroom back to its best.

We hope this guide has given you the inspiration you need to get cracking on making your bathroom beautiful. We’d love to see some snaps of the finished product!
