Make the most of smaller spaces or limited wall space by adding a slimline, tall radiator which is wall mounted and runs vertically up the wall. Their tall, slim design can create a real feature piece if you're clever with positioning, making them ideal for spaces where wall space is limited like bathrooms, kitchens and hallways.

Vertical radiators work similarly to horizontal models so don't let these tall radiators fool you into thinking that they can't produce excellent heat output. We recently had the Metro Vertical Radiator – Matt Black, Double Panel (1600 mm × 472 mm) installed in my son’s Star Wars‑themed bedroom, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. From a design standpoint, it’s perfect. The sleek matte black finish blends beautifully with the darker accents (lightsaber stands, black shelving, starfield murals), and it adds a subtle “industrial‑tech” vibe that complements the space theme. It feels more like part of the décor than just a functional radiator. Installation was surprisingly straightforward. The wall brackets were solid, the alignment was clean, and getting it level was done without stress. All the fittings lined up well, which made life easy for our installer—clearly made to good tolerances. Heat performance is excellent. The room warms up quickly and evenly, even on colder mornings, and maintains a comfortable temperature without needing to push the boiler too hard. No cold spots, just steady warmth, which is exactly what we want in a child’s room. What really finishes things off nicely are the Monza Modern Matt Black Angled Thermostatic Radiator Valves (BLK‑TRV‑ANG). These valves are high quality—solid, well‑made, with smooth operation. The matte black finish matches the radiator perfectly and adds to the cohesive look. They’re thermostatic, so we’re able to fine‑tune the temperature exactly, which helps with energy saving. The angled design also means the pipework is neat, and there’s nothing sticking out awkwardly. They feel premium, not the kind of flimsy thing you substitute just to save a few pounds.

But what are the key considerations to make when buying a vertical bathroom radiator?

How do vertical radiators work?

While they may look different to a standard radiator, vertical radiators essentially work the same way. The only difference is that they are wall hung and, due to them being taller and slimmer, do have less length to draw up cold air for convection.

Do vertical radiators give out enough heat?

While vertical radiators generally give a lower heat output than horizontal radiators, this doesn't always mean that they are less efficient. For smaller rooms, it can actually be much more efficient to use a well-placed wall mounted vertical radiator instead of a standard one; it all comes down to how much heat output your room actually requires in order to heat it up and keep it warm.

What sizes do vertical radiators come in?

There are a large number of different sizes of vertical wall radiators. There are slim radiators with widths of 300mm and tall radiators with heights of 1800mm, meaning that you can opt for a tall slim radiator or a wider multiple panel vertical radiator - and anything in between.

Can vertical radiators be fitted horizontally?

While some vertical radiators can be fitted horizontally, this isn't the best option. This is because these long and thin radiators are designed to fit more compact spaces, while generating as much heat output as necessary. If you have a larger bathroom and can fit a horizontal radiator, this will usually be the best option in terms of energy efficiency.
