MDF - swells when wet

We bought this bath panel because it fitted the look of our bathroom and we could buy a matching toilet seat. It looked great. Unfortunately, after a couple of years the panel began to swell in the joints of the side and top sections as the MDF was not fully covered by laminate. It now looks a complete mess and in need of replacement - expensive for what it is.
