Which type of tiles are best for flooring?

If you want something tough, reliable and low-maintenance, porcelain’s your best bet. It’s dense, durable and moisture-resistant, making it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms and hallways.

Ceramic tiles are a solid choice for lighter-use areas or when you’re working to a budget and still want a stylish result.

If you like the look of natural materials, then choose wood effect or stone effect tiles for floors. These have all the visual appeal without the stress.

Should your floors be lighter or darker than your walls?

It really depends on the look you’re going for:

• Lighter floors can make smaller spaces feel bigger and more open.
• Darker floors bring warmth and richness to larger or naturally bright rooms.

To keep things looking balanced, aim for at least a two-shade difference between floors and walls, as this helps add depth.

Are floor tiles slippery?

They can be but you’ve got options. In bathrooms, go for tiles with an anti-slip rating of R10+, like our non-slip floor tiles, or choose a matt or textured finish. In kitchens, hallways and living spaces, a standard matt tile usually offers enough grip.

Can floor tiles be used with underfloor heating?

Absolutely, tiles are one of the best options for underfloor heating. They spread heat evenly and stay warm for longer. Just make sure you’re using UFH-compatible adhesive and grout, so everything expands and contracts together without any issues.
