Tiles for Kitchen
2nd April 2026These look beautiful as my kitchen backsplash. The wipe clean very easily and look great. Beware the colour variation if you are using several boxes, make sure you mix them up.

Stonehouse green tiles
1st April 2026To have any kind of gap would be a very big grout area. I ended up putting them together. They are not particularly square and have a bit of a wavy profile. For my period property it kind of fits in well. The randomness of the colours are not all that random in the boxes and I wish I had paid more attention when putting them up as I ended up with kind of blocks of darker and lighter colours.

FAQ's
Thinking of revamping your kitchen? Tiles are the perfect blend of durability, style and easy maintenance. From splashbacks to floors, they handle spills, stains and heavy use with ease, all while keeping your space looking fresh and polished. Check out our FAQs to find out why tiles are a great choice for kitchens and how to get the best value for your project.
Why choose tiles for a kitchen?
Unlike laminate or vinyl flooring, which can wear down or warp with moisture, tiles offer unbeatable water resistance and durability, standing up to spills and heavy use without losing their charm. And unlike painted walls that stain or peel in splash-prone areas, tiled walls are easy to clean, highly functional and perfect for adding style with vibrant patterns or glossy finishes. In short, kitchen tiles let you combine practicality with personality, keeping your kitchen looking fresh and fabulous for years.
What type of floor tile is best for a kitchen?
Choosing the right tile material is key to combining style and durability in your kitchen. Here’s a quick guide to the most popular options:
- Porcelain: Porcelain tiles are the top pick for kitchen floors thanks to their toughness and low maintenance. Made from a blend of clay and sand, they resist water, stains and heavy foot traffic with ease. Plus, their colour runs through the tile, so chips and scratches are less noticeable.
- Ceramic: Ceramic tiles offer a wide range of designs and colours, making them a great choice for kitchens with lighter use. They’re easier on the budget but aren’t quite as durable as porcelain, so they work well in less demanding areas.
- Glass: Glass tiles make stunning accents thanks to their glossy finish and vibrant colours. However, they aren’t suitable for high traffic floors as they can be prone to scratches and chips, so they’re best kept to splashbacks or decorative features.
- Marble effect: If you’re after a touch of luxury without the high maintenance, marble effect tiles give you that elegant look with greater durability and practicality.
Should kitchen tiles have a matt or gloss finish?
If you want a bright, modern kitchen that’s easy to wipe down, glossy tiles are your go-to. They reflect light beautifully but can show smudges. For a softer, more natural vibe that hides marks and offers better slip resistance, matt tiles are the practical choice.
How much does it cost to tile a kitchen?
Tiling your kitchen in the UK typically runs around £110 per square metre, covering tiles, materials and labour. Expect to pay about £275 just to tile the splashback between worktops and cabinets, while a full kitchen floor tiling usually costs around £800.
Prices can shift depending on tile type, design complexity and location. For a smooth, hassle-free job, professional tilers charge roughly £50 per m² or about £200 to £350 a day. So, whether you’re sprucing up a small splashback or the whole floor, budgeting smartly can keep your kitchen stylish without breaking the bank.
