Terrazzo Effect Tiles

Terrazzo effect tiles bring an Italian vibe to floors, walls and splashbacks without the hassle of real terrazzo. We've put together everything you need to know so you can choose with confidence and get your project rolling.

What are terrazzo effect tiles?

Terrazzo effect tiles are porcelain or ceramic tiles printed with those signature marble and stone chips. The flecks recreate the appearance of marble, stone or glass pieces, but they are part of the tile's design rather than real chips set into the surface. This means that you get the distinctive terrazzo look in a practical tile format, with plenty of colours, pattern sizes and shapes to choose from.

How do I choose the right terrazzo effect tile?

Look at the background colour as well as the coloured flecks. A tile described as white may look more grey or concrete in person, while the size and number of flecks can make the overall design feel bright and playful or much more subtle.

Order a free sample and check it in your room's lighting. A cut sample will help you judge the colour and finish, but it may only show a small part of the terrazzo pattern. Look at photographs of a complete tile and several terrazzo effect tiles together too, as this will give you a better idea of how the design will look once it is fitted across a whole wall or floor.

Do they need sealing?

No. Unlike real terrazzo, ceramic and porcelain tiles are non-porous, so there's no sealing needed.

Are terrazzo effect tiles slippery?

Just choose the right finish. For floors in bathrooms or kitchens, go for matt or lightly textured tiles (plus, check the slip rating if available). For walls, pick whatever finish suits your style.

What grout colour works best with terrazzo?

Match the base colour for a clean look. Use contrast (e.g. charcoal grout with white tiles) to highlight the pattern. If you're feeling playful, a soft pastel grout paired with coloured flecks adds personality without overpowering the room.

What pairs well with terrazzo effect tiles?

In addition to being eye-catching in-and-of themselves, terrazzo effect floor tiles work incredibly well with a variety of other materials, hues and finishes. Combine terrazzo with simple fixtures; think floating vanity units with hardware in brushed gold or matt black. If you like a bold look, use colourful tile grout or wall tiles to contrast the speckled surface of the terrazzo and make the design stand out.

Combine terrazzo effect floor tiles with warm wood tones for striking a balance between warmth and texture in a bathroom. Terrazzo also looks great with large bathroom mirrors, glass shower enclosures and greenery, particularly in outdoor-inspired spaces.
