FAQ's
If you're looking to start your bathroom renovation, our range of walk-in showers and wet room shower enclosures has everything you need. From wet room screens and support arms to sealants and squeegees, we offer a complete selection of products for both installation and maintenance. Below, you'll find answers to some common questions to help you with your project.
What is a walk-in shower?
Walk-in showers typically consist of a wet room tray and a shower screen, with one side left open for easy entry and exit. The epitome of luxury in the bathroom, walk-in showers offer an elegant, spacious and unhindered showering experience. Some even feature a small area for drying off afterwards. Walk-in showers are also a great choice for those with limited mobility, as they often don’t require the need to open a door or step over a ‘lip’ to enter.
What’s the difference between a wet room and a walk-in shower?
A walk-in shower is typically a cubicle that stands independently within the bathroom, featuring glass panels around the outside and a slightly raised shower tray that directs water to a drain. Wet room showers, on the other hand, often feature glass panels as well, but they don't include shower trays. Instead, the water flows directly into a floor drain, with the entire area needing to be waterproofed and tiled from top to bottom.
Walk-in showers aren't just for wet rooms, though. They include shower trays and don’t require the use of a tray former or extensive tiling, making them a kind of middle ground between standard shower enclosures and wet rooms. They maintain a low-level shower tray while offering an open-plan design with shower screens, without the need for a door.
How long does a walk-in shower need to be?
The length of a walk-in shower depends on the user's needs. However, to prevent water from escaping, a walk-in shower should be at least 800mm in length. Our walk-in shower range starts at 800mm by 800mm and goes up to 1700mm by 900mm, so you're sure to find one that suits your requirements.
Are wet rooms expensive?
As wet rooms require both the walls and floors of your space to be waterproofed, they are generally more expensive than standard bathroom renovations. For more information, take a look at our guide to the costs involved in installing a bathroom.
How long does a wet room last?
Like standard bathrooms, wet rooms should last around 10 years, assuming they are used daily and well maintained with regular cleaning. However, grout and other elements of your wet room may need refreshing before this time.
What is the best flooring for a wet room?
Stone and porcelain tiles are the most popular choices for wet room flooring, thanks to their luxurious appearance and durability. If you're looking for inspiration, explore our extensive range of luxury floor tiles. Waterproof vinyl flooring can also be an effective option in some cases.
How do you install a wet room?
Installing a wet room is a more involved process than fitting a standard shower, as it requires careful planning, floor preparation and full waterproofing to ensure the space is completely watertight. For a step-by-step guide, watch our installation video below:
This video walks you through the full process, including layout planning, drainage installation, waterproofing techniques and tiling, along with expert tips to help you achieve a professional finish.
