FAQ's
To implement a truly traditional style bathroom, a high level toilet cistern is a must have. With elegant exposed pipework and flush chain detailing, these toilets are for those who enjoy a timeless and classic style.
What is a high level toilet?
Instead of featuring a cistern directly behind the toilet itself, a high cistern toilet has it mounted on the wall above the toilet. The plumbing is then connected through exposed pipes that run up into the cistern, making them reminiscent of historical toilet models that leveraged gravity for efficient flushing. Typically they feature a dangling flush chain for easy access and many have wooden lids associated with the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
What other traditional toilets are available?
It’s possible to have a traditional style toilet for most toilet designs, although there are particular toilets that are more suited to a traditional home.
Traditional low level toilets are the smaller counterpart to high level cisterns. Whilst they are similar in design with the cistern being connected by exposed pipework, this style of traditional toilet has the cistern located just above the bowl rather than positioned up high on the wall.
Traditional close coupled toilets are a popular toilet choice for those with small bathrooms. The cistern and bowl are combined, creating a more compact design which makes them ideal for small spaces.
Another option is the traditional back to wall toilet. Also great for smaller ensuite or cloakrooms, these traditional toilets have hidden cisterns. The cistern is installed behind the bathroom wall or unit making them perfect for giving your bathroom a subtle traditional look.
How high do toilet cisterns go?
It all depends on the style of the toilet and your bathroom needs. Typical toilets have the cistern roughly 0.75 metres off of the ground. However, high level cistern toilets tend to be roughly 2 metres high, on average.
