Washstands
Boss your bathroom with our selection of washstand basins. Washstands offer both style and functionality with a design that features a basin mounted on a frame that has two or more legs. The sleek design of a washstand is more practical than that of a pedestal basin as it allows space to hang a hand or face towel. Enjoy free standard UK delivery over £499 at Victorian Plumbing.
Choosing a washstand style basin for your bathroom renovation can make you rethink your bathroom storage options. With no under-sink storage options due to the washstand frame, you may want to consider washstands that include a singular draw, mirrored cabinets or free-standing storage units. Opting for a washstand basin doesn’t mean you have to lose out on bathroom storage.
The console basins in our collection have been expertly made to ensure that they are as sturdy and durable as they are beautiful. We offer a variety of basins from high quality brands like Burlington Bathrooms, Arezzo, Heritage Bathrooms, Venice and more. If you want a quality bathroom that will last for many years then installing one of these is the perfect place to start.

Sturdy and large
23rd July 2026Less spindly or elegant than I thought – larger and robust. The stand is good for draping hand towels on and I also loop my toothbrush charging cable on it. A good, functional sink. I can't use our soap dish any more as the soap wells on either side make it slant weirdly, but a small guest soap resting in one of the dips doesn't seem to go soggy.

Great looking basin with stand.
21st March 2026Traditional looking basin works great with the Chatsworth range. Shame the overflow doesn’t come in antique brass.

FAQ's
Stand mounted basins give you a basin with an open frame underneath, often with space for towels or storage too. They're a good choice if you want something less bulky than a vanity unit but with a bit more character than a standard pedestal basin. These FAQs cover the main things to know before you choose one.
What are the differences between washstands, console basins and wall hung basins?
Washstands have a basin supported by a frame or legs, often with space for towels or storage underneath. Console basins are essentially the same; partially mounted to the wall but also using legs or brackets for support, making them a mix of wall mounted and pedestal basins. Wall hung basins fix directly to the wall with no support underneath, which keeps more of the floor clear.
What are the benefits of having a washstand?
A washstand gives you a basin with useful space underneath without the bulk of other types of bathroom furniture. Depending on the design, you may also get towel rails or open shelving. They're a great option if you want something more decorative than a standard basin but don't need the enclosed storage you get from a bathroom vanity unit.
Will a washstand suit a traditional bathroom?
This is pretty much what they are designed for! Washstands work particularly well in traditional bathrooms because the open frame gives the basin a more decorative look than a standard pedestal. Pair one with traditional bathroom taps and other period-style fittings to carry the same look through the room.
Can a washstand work in a small bathroom?
A smaller washstand can be a great fit for an en-suite, cloakroom or downstairs toilet. You get a proper basin, but the open frame helps keep the room from feeling boxed in. Just make sure that you check the width and depth before you buy so i' doesn’t end up taking over the space.
What materials are best?
Porcelain and ceramic are great choices for console basins because they are durable, easy to clean and resistant to stains. Stainless steel is also popular in more modern settings due to its resilience against rust and staining, as well as its sleek appearance.
Can I replace my existing basin with a washstand?
Often, yes. Check the size of the washstand, where your existing pipes come through and how the basin and frame need to be fixed before you buy.
If the plumbing is already in the right place, swapping out a console basin for a washstand can be fairly straightforward. The basin and stand still need to be secured properly, though, so follow the fitting instructions and bring in a professional if anything needs moving or adjusting.
