Grey Basins

Thinking about swapping white for grey? These FAQs explain how to style a grey basin, which tap finishes work well with it and how different shades can affect the look of your bathroom.

Is a grey basin easy to style?

Yes. Grey works with plenty of bathroom colours, but it is worth looking at the shade's undertone before planning the rest of the room. Some greys appear cooler or slightly blue, while others have warmer brown or green undertones.

Light grey can create a softer scheme, while charcoal and darker greys provide more contrast. Concrete effect finishes add an industrial feel, while terrazzo introduces extra pattern and colour variation.

What taps work well with a grey bathroom sink?

You've got plenty of choice when it comes to matching basin taps to a grey bathroom sink. Chrome bathroom taps keeps things simple, black bathroom taps create stronger definition (particularly against a lighter grey basin), while metallic options like brass bathroom taps can provider a richer contrast against cooler grey tones. The best finish will depend on the basin's undertone and the other taps, fittings and accessories in the room.

Will a grey basin make my bathroom look darker?

Not necessarily. A light grey basin paired with pale tiles or furniture can keep the room looking soft and open. A charcoal or dark grey basin will create a stronger focal point, but it does not need to make the whole room feel dark.

Consider how much natural and artificial light the room receives, as well as the basin's finish. Gloss surfaces reflect more light, while matt and concrete effect finishes usually create a softer appearance. Pale surrounding surfaces, mirrors and well-planned lighting can also balance a darker grey basin.
