Vertical Radiators

Our vertical radiators use more of the wall upwards and less of it across, making them a useful option when wall width is tight. They can fit into narrower spaces between furniture, doors and windows where a wider horizontal radiator would be harder to place. Many designer vertical radiators reach 1600mm and above, so there's plenty of choice when height is easier to find than width.

Going vertical doesn’t mean sticking to one look. Choose from moder designer panels, traditional column radiators and selected mirrored designs, with single and double panel options across the range. White, anthracite and black make up much of the choice, alongside raw metal, brass, copper and selected brighter colours when you want your vertical radiator to stand out more.

A slim and tall radiator isn’t automatically hotter or better at heating the room. Size, panels, columns and the way each radiator is made all affect how much heat it gives out. Work out how many BTUs the room needs first, then choose a vertical radiator that provides enough heat and fits the wall space you have.

FAQ's

Vertical radiators are particularly useful when you have more wall height than width available. The right model still needs to provide enough heat for the room, so it’s worth comparing size, BTU output and panel type before choosing.

What are vertical radiators?

Vertical radiators are tall, narrow radiators designed to use more wall height and less width. Most connect to a central heating system, where hot water flows through the radiator and warms its panels or columns, which then heat the room. They work in much the same way as horizontal radiators; the main difference is their upright shape, which makes them easier to fit on narrower sections of wall.

Do vertical radiators give enough heat?

They do, provided the radiator's BTU output is high enough for the room. Being tall and slim doesn't automatically mean a vertical radiator gives out less heat than a horizontal model. Larger rooms and spaces with high ceilings may need more heat, so calculate the BTU requirement using the room's dimensions and other factors that affect heat loss (such as windows, external walls and insulation), then choose a radiator that meets it.

Where can I put a vertical radiator?

Vertical radiators work well on narrow sections of wall where a wider radiator would be awkward to fit, such as beside doors, between pieces of furniture or on walls broken up by windows and fitted units. They can be a useful choice in kitchens, hallways, bedrooms and living rooms.

Can I replace a horizontal radiator with a vertical one?

Usually, yes, but the pipework may need moving because the connections are likely to sit in a different place. Make sure the new vertical radiator also gives out enough heat for the room rather than choosing on size alone. If the pipes or wall fixings need changing, it's best to have the installation checked by a professional.

Can vertical radiators be fitted horizontally?

Only if the radiator is specifically designed for both orientations. Most space-saving vertical radiators should be installed upright as intended, so turning one on its side could affect how it works or how it can be fitted. Check the product details before installation.

How do I pick the right valves?

Vertical radiators can have connections at the sides, underneath or, on selected designs, towards the centre, so their upright orientation can change how the radiator meets your existing pipework. Pipes rising from the floor may need angled radiaotor valves for side connections or straight radiator valves for bottom connections, while pipes coming from the wall may suit angled or corner radiator valves.
