What is a rimless toilet?

A rimless toilet is simply a loo without the boxed rim you see on older designs. From the outside it looks familiar, but the flush works differently. Instead of water dropping from under a rim, it flows around the pan in one clean sweep. We’ve supplied loads of these and the first thing people notice is how easy the bowl is to reach.

 

What are the benefits of rimless toilets?

• They stay fresher for longer, especially in hard water areas where limescale loves a hiding spot.

Are rimless toilets easier to clean and more hygienic?

Yes. With no rim, there aren't any dark corners for bacteria to settle. A quick wipe around the edge does the job. If you’ve ever battled limescale under a boxed rim, you’ll appreciate the difference straight away.

 

Do rimless toilets splash more?

Most don't, as high quality rimless toilets are designed to channel the water neatly. But a few things can increase the chance of splashing:

• A very powerful flush that isn’t balanced for the bowl shape.
• A cistern set too high or a toilet that isn’t sitting level.
• A longer flush than needed.

 

Do rimless toilets save water compared to standard models?

They can. The direct flush often uses water more efficiently and we see many rimless designs using around a quarter less per flush than older systems. It's a small change that adds up, especially in busy homes.
