What is a Type 21 radiator?

A Type 21 radiator (also known as a K1 or double panel single convector radiator) is a type of central heating radiator that has two heating panels with a single row of convector fins between them. 

This gives it a higher heat output than a Type 11 radiator, while keeping it slimmer than a Type 22.

 

What's the difference between Type 11, Type 21 and Type 22 radiators?

The number refers to the number of panels and rows of convector fins. 

• Type 11 has one panel and one row of fins
• Type 21 has two panels and one row of fins
• Type 22 has two panels and two rows of fins

Generally, adding panels and fins increases heat output and makes the radiator deeper, making Type 21 a useful middle ground between the two.

For larger rooms, or rooms that get colder, a Type 22 radiator may provide the higher output required.

 

How do I choose the right Type 21 radiator?

Start by working out how much heat your room needs in BTUs, taking into account factors such as room size, insulation, windows and external walls.
