Victorian Elegance

Victorian Elegance

I always think of my own style as classic with a twist, and I wanted to create a bathroom that's all about timeless elegance, a place where you can revel in the luxury of a lovely long soak in a magnificent statement bathtub, whilst gazing up at your sparkling chandelier (perhaps even with a glass of prosecco in your hand!).

Victorian Elegance is about period drama and a dash of glamour, about taking time to pamper yourself in the glory of days gone by. After all, an Englishman's home is always his castle and your bathroom should be your ultimate haven.

Period Glamour

Period Glamour

The Victorian look is all about period glamour. It's a real statement bathroom. Key features are a claw foot bath (a must), pedestal basin and if possible, a high level cistern.

Choose a statement chandelier and accessorise with period style pictures and perhaps the plant beloved by the Victorians, the peace lily (also a perfect choice for a steamy bathroom).

Victorian Inspiration

Victorian style bathrooms look great with bold paint colours, often inspired by the Victorian era - choose from dark green, plum, charcoal grey or deep taupe. If you have a relatively high ceiling draw attention to it with a statement tall fern and keep the period theme going in accessories such as mirrors, bath caddies and perhaps a dado rail.

Dramatic Details

Dramatic Details

If you want to focus on the shower, choose a dramatic large shower head for your Victorian bathroom. The Victorians loved tiling so also consider a practical and impactful fully tiled wall. Mask a less than interesting window or view with a coloured blind and remember the little details such as a period brass pull.

More From The Range

Alison CorkStyling Tips:
  • Keep your accessories classic, a bath rack will hold everything in period style, including that glass of prosecco!

  • Consider adding in a dash of colour in the form of a feature painted wall - shades of plum can work particularly well.

  • Do as the Victorians did and add a dramatic plant such as a peace lily to your bathroom - it will also improve your air quality.

  • Scour bric a brac shops for an assortment of glass bottles and containers for a decorative way to display lotions & potions.

  • Include a period chair to add character - it's also a lovely way to encourage company whilst you soak in the bath!
