Scandi Retro

Scandi Retro

I'm a huge fan of retro and the pared back style of the Scandinavians. Somehow it manages to combine the best of the past with a crisp modern edge to it - simple but interesting, with a focus on natural materials such as wood, leather and ceramics.

My Scandi Retro bathroom brings all of these elements together, with the wonderful added feature of a beautiful abstract tiled floor. With its carefully considered minimalist features, this is also a great bathroom choice for smaller rooms, where compact design is really important.

Simple & Natural

Simple & Natural

Scandi is about simplicity and nature. Choose organic, rounded shapes for baths and mirrors and try to incorporate natural materials such as wood and leather into your accessories. Add an image of nature in the form of a picture or painting and keep the look consistent with little touches like a hessian basket or waste bin.

Minimal & Clutter-free

Lots of bathrooms are awkward shapes and the Scandi look is perfect for this as it is unstructured and can be made to fit into the space available. If space is at a premium, choose off the floor basins and cabinets to keep the look and feel simple and uncluttered. Keep all colours light and reminiscent of nature, and accessories at a minimum.

Artisan Inspired

Artisan Inspired

The Scandi look has a utilitarian feel to it - so make liberal use of simple white tiles and perhaps add interest with some artisan inspired floor tiles. Fabrics should always be natural, such as cotton or linen, and organic material in the form of plants will add the perfect finishing touch, and improve air quality!

More From The Range

Alison CorkStyling Tips:
  • Think natural and go for accessories in wood, or perhaps trimmed with leather.

  • Consider finishing the look with linen towels as opposed to cotton, for a really retro feel.

  • Keep wall colours simple, going for a flat chalky finish as opposed to satin or gloss.

  • Decorate with functional, natural elements. Use a wicker basket to hold your dry towels.

  • Fit simple wooden knobs to the wall or door to for hanging bathrobes & towels.
