FAQ's
Choosing a wall hung toilet frame? Our FAQs cover sizing, wall support, cistern compatibility and what to consider before fitting.
What is a wall hung toilet frame?
A wall hung toilet frame is fitted behind the wall to support the toilet pan and keep the cistern out of sight.
These frames come in different heights to suit your bathroom. Standard models are usually around 1.12m to 1.15m tall, while shorter 820mm to 980mm options can fit beneath a window or in a low wall. Some are tested to support up to 400kg, though the load capacity varies by model.
Will a wall hung toilet fit any frame?
No. The toilet's fixing points need to match the frame, and its flush and waste connections need to line up. If you're buying the pan and frame separately, their fitting dimensions will help you find a pair that works together.
Will a compact toilet frame fit in my bathroom?
It depends on the space behind the finished wall. A lower frame can work beneath a window, but its width and depth still need to fit alongside your pipework. The height of the toilet wall mounting frame doesn't set the seat height on its own: where the pan is mounted and the finished floor level affect how high the toilet will sit.
Does a toilet frame come with a cistern and flush plate?
Some do. Our range includes frames with concealed dual flush cisterns, sets with a flush plate, and separate fixing parts.
Can I choose a different flush plate?
Sometimes. A replacement plate needs to work with the cistern supplied with the frame, and the choice varies between models. If you have a particular finish in mind, the compatible plate options are worth looking at before you settle on a wall hung toilet frame.
What should I know about fitting a wall hung toilet frame?
The right frame depends on your wall and the space available. Some frames can be fixed to solid masonry, while a timber or metal stud wall needs suitable brackets and support. Frame depth is often around 145 to 200mm, so a false wall or bulkhead may be needed to conceal the cistern and pipework.
Most wall hung toilet frames have adjustable feet, which let the installer set the pan height before the floor and wall are finished. Existing pipework can also affect the work, so the frame's fitting instructions can help confirm what's needed.
Can I reach the cistern once the wall is finished?
Yes, if the installation leaves access as the manufacturer intends. On many frames, removing the flush plate lets you reach parts inside the cistern for maintenance. Access and replacement parts vary by model, so they're worth considering before the wall is closed.
