How do you measure for a new shower curtain rail?

Before purchasing a shower curtain rail, it’s important to take precise measurements of your bathroom. Start by measuring the width of the shower or bath area at the height where you plan to install the rail. For a straight rail, this single measurement is sufficient, but for an L-shaped or corner rail, measure both sides and combine the lengths to get the total required size.

Next, check the clearance from the ceiling to ensure the rail fits comfortably and won’t interfere with any fixtures. You should also measure the drop; the distance from the rail’s mounting point down to just above the shower tray or bath edge. This ensures your curtain will hang properly, covering the area fully without touching the floor.
