FAQ's

When it comes to lighting your bathroom effectively, there are numerous ways to achieve a stunning, natural effect. One of the best methods to enhance the room's atmosphere is by installing wall mounted lighting. Bathroom wall lights allow you to create a more subtle, ambient effect and are perfect for highlighting specific areas of the room. However, it’s not as simple as just choosing a light you like and installing it wherever you wish. There are a few important considerations to keep in mind, as we'll explain here.

What styles are available?

In addition to the wide variety of stylish modern and classic lights available, there are also more decorative alternatives to consider, as outlined below:

  • Mini chandeliers. For a more traditionally inspired setting, chandeliers are an excellent choice to capture a period feel. They add an ornate, elegant touch that brings your lighting to life. Wall mounted mini chandeliers are designed to complement larger, ceiling mounted versions, creating a coordinated and harmonious effect.
  • Shaded lights. Bathroom wall lights with shades offer a unique aesthetic, with many shades designed to harmonise with ceiling mounted counterparts. Not only do shades add an extra touch of style, but they also help create a more ambient lighting effect, enhancing the room without making it overly bright.
  • LED spotlights. If you have a modern bathroom and wish to highlight specific areas, LED spotlights are a fantastic option. For example, you can install LED lights at the bottom of your bath panel to create a relaxing mood. Available in a variety of colours, these spotlights offer flexibility to suit your personal preferences.

Can I place a wall mounted light anywhere?

Not necessarily. As electrical items, there are specific regulations to follow when installing lights in areas where they may be exposed to water. It's important to be aware of the different splash zones within a bathroom. Bathroom wall lights are generally safe to install in zone 2 areas, as these are less likely to come into direct contact with water compared to zones 0 and 1. To ensure safe installation, you'll need lights with a minimum IP44 rating.

Is bathroom wall lighting easy to install?

If the wiring is already in place to allow for the installation of bathroom wall lights, it’s relatively straightforward to do it yourself.

The first step is to turn off the power supply to ensure safety. Next, carefully remove the old light fixture from the wall, disconnecting it from the wiring. Once that’s done, wire the new light fitting into the existing wires, taking extra care and always following the manufacturer's guidelines. You can then mount the fitting onto the wall and secure it using the screws or fitting mechanism provided. Finally, simply screw in your bulbs, and you're ready to go!

However, we strongly recommend using a qualified tradesperson for bathroom lighting installations in most cases, as this helps to avoid potential mishaps. Always ensure that the work carried out complies with any applicable regulations.
