Steel Baths

Steel baths are formed from a rigid sheet of steel and finished with a smooth enamel coating. This construction gives them a solid feel and a crisp appearance. Their strength makes them a popular choice for frequently used bathrooms, particularly for customers looking for a durable alternative to a standard acrylic bath.

With their hard-wearing enamelled surface and sturdy construction, steel baths are well suited to busy family bathrooms and regular use. The smooth finish is straightforward to maintain when cared for correctly, while the rigid structure provides stability. Some models also include practical additions such as grips or an anti-slip surface.

Steel baths are available in several lengths and configurations to suit different bathroom layouts. Choose from single ended designs, models with pre-drilled tap holes and options with grips or anti-slip finishes. Check the individual product details carefully, as bath legs, panels, wastes and other installation components may (or may not) be included.

FAQ's

Steel baths combine a solid, reassuring feel with a smooth enamel finish that’s easy to keep clean. Their strong construction makes them a practical choice for busy bathrooms, while the simple, modern look works with plenty of different styles. Here are a few things worth knowing before choosing one.

What is a steel bath, and why choose one?

A steel bath is made from shaped steel with a smooth enamel coating. Its rigid construction gives it a sturdy feel and helps it stand up well to regular use, making it a dependable choice for busy family bathrooms. The tough enamel surface is also resistant to everyday scratches and UV damage, helping the bath keep its colour over time.

Steel baths can feel cool at first, but they warm up once filled and offer a reassuring bathing experience. They are heavier than most acrylic baths, though, so you may need two or three people to lift and position one safely during installation.

Are steel baths better than acrylic baths?

Both materials have their benefits. Steel baths are strong, rigid and resistant to everyday wear, while acrylic baths are usually lighter, warmer to the touch and available in a wider choice of shapes. The right option depends on your bathroom, budget and installation rather than one material being better for everyone.

Do steel baths feel cold or lose heat quickly?

Steel can feel cooler than acrylic at first, but the surface soon warms once the bath is filled. How long the water stays warm will also depend on the bath itself, the temperature of the room and whether any extra insulation has been fitted around it.

Are steel baths heavy or noisy?

Steel baths are generally heavier than acrylic models, so you may need an extra pair of hands to lift and position one. Make sure the floor and supporting frame are suitable before installation. Water may also sound louder against the steel, although secure fitting and suitable sound-insulating pads can help keep noise down.

Can a steel bath chip, scratch or rust?

The enamel finish is tough, but it can still be chipped or scratched by heavy impacts and abrasive cleaning products. If damage exposes the steel underneath, repair it promptly to help stop rust from forming. For everyday cleaning, use a soft cloth or sponge with a suitable non-abrasive bath cleaner.
