Bathroom Wallpaper

Want to tap into the latest design trends but don’t want to give your bathroom a complete re-design? Wallpapering your bathroom is making a comeback! It is easy to see why as it can help make a real style statement. You’re probably thinking: wallpaper in my bathroom? Won’t it just fade or peel? and isn’t it a little dated?

No new invention, bathroom wallpaper has been around for a while. The majority of previous designs and technology meant it had low life expectancy due to steam and humidity. You’re probably thinking of ornate wallpaper designs circa 1980, but times and designs have changed. You can now buy bathroom wallpaper that is specifically designed for bathroom use which resists moisture and is easier to maintain than previous designs.

Give your bathroom a brand new, trendy look in no time at all without having to renovate the entire room. For example, tile effect wallpaper can provide a realistic and cost effective alternative to tiling, which can save you the time and effort of maintaining grouting. It can also add wonderful texture to your walls.

If you are considering choosing wallpaper for your wall decoration, we’ve come up with a few tips to consider when wallpapering your bathroom:

Tip 1. Check the batch number

Don’t forget to check the batch number on all rolls is the same as colours and designs can vary from batch to batch - the last thing you want to find out when you are in the middle of your decoration is that the patterns don’t match up! Double check that it is suitable for bathroom use otherwise it will peel and fade.

Tip 2. Clean and bare

Ensure that your bathroom wall surface is clean and bare before you attempt to wallpaper. This will help avoid unsightly lumps and bubbles in your finish.

Tip 3. Ventilate your bathroom

Make sure that your bathroom is properly ventilated to prevent the build-up of steam, which can cause the build-up of mildew. We've previously covered how to effectively ventilate your bathroom in an expert guide so be sure to check that one out.

Tip 4. Don't wallpaper close to water

We would suggest that you also avoid wallpapering inside your shower or behind a basin. This is due to the sheer amount of daily contact with water which will increase wear and tear. Keep these areas tiled as it is easier to maintain than wallpaper.

Tip 5. Create a focal point

Create a focal point in your bathroom by wallpapering one wall and this will help create the tone of the bathroom. Graphic prints and on trend colour schemes will update your bathroom without the huge renovation costs.
