Matt Smith-Wood on the Arvada Copper Oxide Metal Effect and Garachico Matt Ocre Terracotta Effect Tile Pairing

 

"The combination of these tiles brings a great sense of warmth to a scheme. They both offer variation of tone and colouration which feel natural and premium, and using them together displays their contrasting features too, metal against stone.

As we curated this collection, we spoke with Matt on the importance of contrast when creating a natural aesthetic through earth tones. Nature is all encompassing; full of light and dark, a variety of textures,  and plenty of earthy colours. Contrast becomes a vital component in achieving a nature inspired look. 

"I like the contrast between these tiles; the smaller format Martil Green Porcelain brings a slightly undulating surface along with tonal variety and a gloss finish that means the light plays on them in really interesting ways. Yet, the Merana tiles are a much larger format, matt and feel really warm and grounding. The two showcase and complement one another perfectly through their differences." — Matt Smith-Wood

Embracing Earth Tones is not solely about collating various shades of brown. Deep greens play an important role in this colour palette. Matt explains that "commonly people tend to think of colours from sandy tones to terracotta in this type of palette, but I wanted to include greens to bring a sense of the outside in, and rich tones that bring a sense of warmth and connection to nature."

Paired with the anthracite stone finish of the Stonehouse Studio Gio tiles, this pairing is a fantastic exercise in the versatility of earthy hues.
