What is a cloakroom?

A cloakroom is a small bathroom often consisting of just a short projection toilet and cloakroom basin. Typically, this style of bathroom is found on the ground floor of a home which is why they’re also known as downstairs toilets. 

The thing that separates cloakroom suites from other examples is their compact size. They look similar in style to their larger counterparts but they are often narrower or don't project away from the wall as much. This makes them absolutely ideal for en-suites and guest bathrooms as these are often much smaller than regular family settings. They are also a good choice if your bathroom happens to be an unusual or awkward shape as they can fit into tighter areas than other designs.

 

How wide does a cloakroom need to be?

In order for a cloakroom to remain functional while still having room for a toilet and basin, you wouldn’t want it any smaller than around 70cm wide and 130cm long. However, there is no limit to how large a cloakroom can be.
