Monza­­ Bathrooms

Nice big sink looks great. The Monza drawers purchased separately are fantastic. However, this is the second time I'm buying this sink. The first one installed 8 years ago has worn. It had got various little chips in the ceramic finish - in the basin, at the edge where the drain outlet is, on the ledge, next to the tap. This is not from damage, just manufacturing defects I think where it has lifted and chipped over time. One issue I get is that the flow of water in this square basin with flat base is such that it can be difficult for any dirt or debris to wash away. A short tap will have water flow directly over the drain, and the flow of water pushes debris away from the drain. Ideally you should have a very long tap so that water hits the front base of the sink and flows sideways in both directions, because that water will then flow backwards and then back into the middle and into the drain hole. I achieved this using a waterfall tap because the water flows forward past the drain rather than straight down onto the drain. The ledge where the tap is situated is totally flat. It means that water pools there and leaves limescale. Also difficult to wash dirt and dust from there because the water stands rather than flows down. Ultimately you have to wipe the water off and then wipe down the ledge with a cloth. The lip of the sink all the way around is only about 5mm tall. It matters less at the front of the basin because obviously there is a slope and you shouldn't have water that high because of the overflow drain. But on the ledge where the tap is, any standing water there is at risk of overflowing over the edge down the sides. This happens if you try to rinse the ledge or if you are cleaning it and aren't careful and you wipe water from the middle to the sides, the water flows off the side edges of the sink. You have to be careful and wipe water from the sides of the ledge towards the middle where the tap is to make sure it flows into the basin. But also some of the water just flows onto the other side of the ledge. If the ledge was sloped by a few degrees towards the basin, then there would be less standing water and it wouldn't be as much of a problem. Lastly, because of the square shape of the sink and because the base of the sink is mostly flat, I get a lot of dirt build up in the basin all along the left, right, and back curved edges where the side wall of the sink meets the base. For some reason, that's where the dirt really collects and sticks, and it needs a scrub every week. With traditional round basins, I never really found a particular edge or spot where dirt builds up. Water would always flow nicely to the drain, and only the drain hole needed regular intensive cleaning but in this square Monza sink, the water flow is different and you have to be ready for that. Over time, I have found that the sink base stains a bit as well. Blue kids toothpaste or any other coloured thing can leave a stain in the basin that needs scrubbing or time to get rid of. The reason I bought it again is that it matches the design of the rest of the bathroom. It is a nice big sink and also I have re used the Monza drawers which are great. The built in overflow is excellent. And installation is no problem. If you maintain the sink with regular cleaning and like the look it's great. Overall, I like it, which is why I bought it again despite the issues. But if you want a no nonsense no maintenance hard wearing sink, I wouldn't buy this.
