FAQ's
Want to freshen up your bath without replacing the whole thing? A new bath panel is a simple way to update its appearance while hiding the pipework, frame and fittings underneath. In this guide, we'll run through the different materials, sizes and fitting options to help you choose the right one.
What's the purpose of a bath panel?
Bath panels are typically fitted to straight baths and shower baths. Their main job is to hide the plumbing, frame and feet underneath the bath, giving everything a neater finish. They can also help protect the area beneath your bath from everyday splashes.
What are bath panels made of?
Bath panels come in a range of materials, including acrylic bath panels, MDF bath panels and waterproof PVC bath panels, with plenty of colours and finishes to choose from. This makes it easy to match your panel with your bath, bathroom furniture or the rest of the room.
If you're updating the whole look of your bath rather than replacing a single panel, you may need matching front and end panels. Check what's included before ordering so you have everything you need.
Are bath panels a standard size?
Bath panels come in a range of sizes, so you'll need to choose one that matches your bath. Front panels are commonly available in lengths including 1500mm, 1600mm, 1700mm and 1800mm, while end panels are available in different widths to suit the bath.
Measure your existing bath and panel carefully before ordering, and remember to check both the length and height. For shaped shower baths, you'll usually need a panel designed specifically for that bath.
Can you cut a bath panel to fit?
Some bath panels can be trimmed to fit, which can be useful if pipework, skirting boards or the size of your bath gets in the way. However, whether a panel can be cut, as well as the best tool to use, will depend on its material and design.
Always check the manufacturer's fitting instructions before cutting. If you're trimming an MDF panel, any exposed edges may also need to be properly resealed to help prevent moisture getting into the material.
