Shower stool

11th March 2026

I bought this great little shower stool recently for my mother. She’s really pleased with it. It’s very sturdy, therefore gives her stability in the shower. It is also a neat size, giving her plenty of space to move around. I can’t think of any negatives in the design, however, a small point is that she would have preferred it in white rather than grey to fit in with the decor!

FAQ's

When it comes to shower seats and chairs, there’s more to consider than just adding one to your bathroom. From picking a seat that fits and using it in a bath to keeping it clean and hygienic, here’s everything you need to know about shower seats and stools.

Are shower seats a good idea?

Yes, but the type of seat matters. A shower seat can improve safety, comfort and accessibility but fixed, built-in benches aren’t always ideal. They can be the wrong height, made from slippery materials or positioned poorly. This can reduce flexibility and even create hazards.

Better options are foldable wall mounted shower seats, portable freestanding shower stools or swivel designs. These offer adjustable height, can be moved or folded away, and adapt to different users. Pair with a flat shower floor and pre-installed wall support for grab bars. This gives you a setup that’s safe, comfortable and future-ready.

Can you put a shower chair in a bathtub?

Yes, you can, but it has to fit properly. A shower chair or stool designed for bathtubs can be used safely, as long as its feet sit flat (and don’t slip) when positioned on the floor of the bath. Check the chair’s height, size and stability, especially if your bath has a slope or curve, as adjustable legs may be needed to keep it level.

Are shower chairs easy to clean?

Shower chairs can be tricky to keep spotless, especially textured or non-slip models. Soap scum and moisture can build up quickly, creating mould or mildew if not managed. Smooth surfaces are easier, but textured seating often requires a bit more effort.

Effective cleaning combines rinsing, thorough drying and the right tools. Soaking in a vinegar-and-soap solution, and using long-handled brushes or bleach-based cleaners can remove grime safely. Preventive steps, like wiping after each use, using daily shower sprays and keeping the chair dry as far as possible, make ongoing maintenance easier.
