do you need a thermostatic valve with this shower?

Yes it does have a diverter.

Hi. I have seen references on other sites that this riser kit has a diverter for the hand shower but I can't really see where it is on the picture. Can you explain where it is located please?

The diverter is on the left side of the cross at the bottom of the unit

Hi. The Ultra telescopic riser kit with square shower head is only suitable for shower valves and not bath / shower mixers.
