It’s time to get your bathroom sink squeaky clean again - and we’ve got two brilliant methods that will have it looking as good as new.

It’s easy to forget that even though the sink cleans your hands, you also need to clean sink build up to return the favour, and keeping on top of it regularly will make it a much easier job. But don’t worry, because today we’re going to show you a really effective way to get your bathroom sink sparkling clean again!

While it’s a good idea to give your bathroom sink a quick wipe if you notice any dust or dirt on the basin, giving it a proper clean once a week should keep it grime-free, odour-free and bacteria-free!

How to Regularly Clean Your Bathroom Sink

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cleaning sponge or cloth

  • Micro-fibre cloth or kitchen roll for drying

  • Washing up liquid/standard household gentle cleaning product

Step 1

Before you start any cleaning, make sure you remove anything that you keep on or around the bathroom basin, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, or soap. Feel free to give these items a quick wipe with a damp sponge/cloth if they have any dust or dirt on them.

Step 2

Next, it’s time to get some help from your sink: turn on the tap and fill it with hot water. You can add a small amount of washing up liquid or a similar gentle cleaning product, and now you have your very own bathroom sink cleaning reservoir!

Step 3

Dip your sponge/cloth into the hot, soapy water, and then use it to wipe down the outside of the basin. Depending on the style of sink you have, you may also need to wipe down the surrounding countertop, or the pedestal.

Step 4

Using the same process, wipe down the tap. Just make sure you get any fiddly bits, depending on what style of tap you have, including around the handle.

Step 5

Drain the hot water from the sink, and give the basin a quick wipe as well.

Step 6

With a dry micro-fibre cloth or some kitchen roll, pat everything dry. While kitchen roll can work in a pinch, a micro-fibre cloth works better as it won’t leave any extra lint or fluff behind.

How to Deep Clean Your Bathroom Sink

If it’s been a little while since you last gave your sink a quick clean and it’s starting to look a bit stained, then here’s another method that will be just right for you. Even if you’ve got some serious grime build-up on your basin, this method will have it looking as good as new in no time.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Rubber gloves

  • Cleaning sponge or cloth

  • Micro-fibre cloth or kitchen roll for drying

  • Empty spray bottle

  • White vinegar

  • Old toothbrush

Step 1

Once again, it’s a smart idea to remove anything you keep on or around your bathroom sink before you get started. If it’s already clutter-free, then give yourself a pat on the back - you’re all done for this step!

Step 2

To prepare for the next step, put both your white vinegar and some warm water (in equal amounts) into an empty spray bottle. This cleaning solution will be super tough on hard-to-shift grime, but make sure you’re only using it for occasional deep cleans - it’s too intense for regular cleaning.

Step 3

Put on your rubber gloves, just to be safe, and start with the outside of the basin, spraying it down with your white vinegar cleaning solution. Make sure you include the pedestal or countertop depending on the type of sink you have! Then, wipe everything down with your cleaning cloth or sponge.

Step 4

If you run into any stubborn spots, try spraying them with a little more of the white vinegar solution and then leaving them for a few minutes so it can properly soak into the grime. Then, you should be able to just wipe it away.

Step 5

Next, you can move on to the inside of the basin. Spray it with the white vinegar solution, leave it for a few minutes for a particularly grimy or stubborn spot, and then wipe away. You can then rinse the bathroom basin by filling it with water and then draining it.

Step 6

Then, it’s time for the taps - but be extra careful here, as white vinegar can be abrasive to some tap finishes. Spray it down, wipe it, and then use an old toothbrush (one that you definitely aren’t going to use for brushing your teeth!) to go over any difficult, stubborn stains.

Step 7

Finally, take a dry micro-fibre cloth or some kitchen roll and pat everything dry to make sure you don’t leave any water marks behind.

By using either of the above methods, depending on the condition of your sink, it should now be back to its original, shiny self - congrats! The best way to avoid having to do a full deep clean of your sink is to use the first method just once a week or so, which will help you catch and prevent grime build-up.
