Introduction

If you've been busy creating the bathroom of your dreams, you'll no doubt already have those smart looking fittings and fixtures; but a bathroom only really looks complete when there are a few additional extras included. Some of the most practical and stylish items are mirrors and cabinets, and in this guide we'll be looking at what's available and whether it's right for your bathroom.

So what are my options?

The first thing you need to establish is how much space you have to begin with. Take some measurements of the wall you intend to mount the mirror or cabinet to before purchasing to make sure there is enough room for it. You should also choose something which will cater to everyone who will use the bathroom, so pick something which is large enough to accommodate everybody's daily essentials.

Many of our cabinets actually feature a mirror as part of their design, which not only looks great, it's also a practical option too as it helps to save space as you don't need to buy both items separately. Many of these products actually come with special features too, such as LED lighting, shaver sockets, and demister pads for an added element of practicality.

With regards to cabinets and mirrors which have electrical aspects such as shaver sockets, you should be wary of where you place them. It's best to keep them away from certain bathroom zones, such as near the shower or basin as these areas can cause water to be accidentally splashed onto the electrical components, which obviously isn't good! You can find the zone ratings for each product in the descriptions on our website.

How easy are they to install?

Fitting a bathroom mirror or cabinet (or mirrored cabinet as the case may be!) isn't too difficult at all provided you are confident at tackling such a task. If you're a little unsure however it's always best to call a professional. If your mirror or cabinet has electrical elements, then you will need to hire a specific plumber or electrician (one which has a part p qualification) to complete the installation.

Firstly, you need to use a spirit level to determine exactly where the cabinet will be placed. Mark out where the supports for the cabinet will go. Make sure the lines you've drawn are all straight then attach the supports using a hammer and nails.

Now install the cabinet onto the supports (double check the supports are fully secure first) making sure the fit is good and isn't loose or wonky in any way. Finally you'll need to attach the doors to the cabinet if they aren't already in place. Take care to screw the hinges in properly to avoid the doors from working loose.

That should be it! Of course the general design of each item will differ and some may require a slightly different fitting process but it really isn't that tough. If you don't want to risk it though (and that's perfectly understandable if you've spent good money on the tiles and cabinet itself) then we recommend contacting a professional to install it for you to avoid any mishaps.
